Types of Loans in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has two main types of consumer lending: bank loans and MFO (microfinance organization) loans.
Banks issue loans from 50,000 to 10,000,000 tenge for up to 7 years. Interest rates range from 18% to 25% per year. Proof of income and a good credit history are usually required.
MFOs issue fast loans without income documents — typically up to 500,000 tenge for up to 30 days. Rates are significantly higher: from 150% to 365% APR. MFOs are suitable only for urgent short-term needs.
What Documents Are Required
At most Kazakhstani banks, you'll need the following to apply for a consumer loan:
- •National ID card (IIN number)
- •Proof of income (bank-form statement or pension account extract)
- •Collateral or guarantor documents — for large amounts above 3–5 million KZT
How to Choose the Best Offer
Compare not just the nominal interest rate, but the full cost of the loan — ESIR (Effective Annual Interest Rate). It includes all fees and additional payments and shows the real overpayment.
For example, with a 500,000 KZT loan for 12 months at 20% per year, the monthly payment will be about 46,300 KZT, and the total overpayment will be about 56,000 KZT. The same loan at 25% will cost 15,000 KZT more.
Use a comparison service to see rates, monthly payments, and overpayment for all banks at once — without having to visit each one.
Step-by-Step Loan Process
Getting a loan at most Kazakhstani banks works like this:
- •Choose an offer — compare several banks by rate and terms
- •Apply online or at a bank branch
- •Wait for a preliminary decision (usually 15 minutes to 1 day)
- •Submit documents and sign the agreement
- •Receive money on your card or in cash
